Medical Fitness Test
Family members who have completed the age of 18 years need to undergo a medical fitness test. Without giving the medical test they cannot get the Residence Visa. The test would be taken in the United Arab Emirates health centres. They would be checked for two communicable diseases. One is HIV and pulmonary tuberculosis. For HIV, blood sample would be taken and an x-ray of their chest for pulmonary tuberculosis. If they found positive in any of the diseases they would not be given a residence visa. They will be departed immediately. If someone has dormant or inactive pulmonary tuberculosis then they will get a one-year ‘Health Fitness Certificate for Residence’. They need to take treatment and follow-up by the relevant health authority. Hence, you should take a health test for these diseases from your home country itself.
Sponsoring your Wife and Children
An expatriate resident can sponsor the residence visa for his wife and children. But, he needs to fulfil the below requirements:
Sponsoring Sons: The son can be sponsored if he is 18 Years old. After the age of 18, he can only be sponsored if he studies in the United Arab Emirates. A proof needs to be shown that the son studies in the UAE. If the proof is valid then he will get the visa till the age of 21. The residence visa is granted yearly. The visa should be renewed until he completes its studies. A new law was launched which states that students who have completed 18 years of age or graduated from their universities or secondary schools will get a one-year residence visa. This visa is renewable for another year from the graduation date or on completing 18 years.
Parents need to pay AED100 when the visa is issued for the first time and renewal. Parents don’t need to place bank deposits for this Visa. They just need to submit attested graduation certificates from their children’s university or school. It does not matter whether the university or school is inside the country or abroad.
Sponsoring Daughters: The Daughter can only be sponsored if she is unmarried. If she is married then you cannot avail of a residence visa for her.
Sponsoring Stepchildren: Stepchildren can also be sponsored provided you pay a deposit for each child. You also need to provide a written no-objection certificate from the biological parent. The residence visa for them is valid for one year and can be renewed annually.
Validity and Renewal Of United Arab Emirates Family Visa
The resident sponsor only has 60 days to apply for his dependents’ residence visa after they have entered the United Arab Emirates. Within 60 days the visa status should be changed from an entry permit holder to a residence visa holder. The visa is issued for one, two, or three years to the family members depending upon the type of work the sponsor does. It also depends on the labour contract.
