Alexander Dumas visited the Mosque in 1840 and called it "The Mosque of Fatima." In addition to its religious significance, Ukema Khanum, a descendant of Prophet Muhammad, is tombed inside the mosque. In order to recreate Shirvan's classic architecture of the mosque, architects used pictures and traveler descriptions of the three domes and two minarets. In the interior of the dome, which is covered with green, teal, and gold, are gold inscriptions on the Qur'an.
Flame Towers
Completing the three glass skyscrapers comprising the Flame Towers, the skyline was only relatively new – it became iconic in 2012. The three towers sit on top of a hill overlooking the old town center and Baku Bay, inspired by Azerbaijan's ancient practice of fire worship.
The blue reflective towers are impressive by day, but after the dark, their surfaces become truly spectacular, with over 10,000 LEDs coloured in the fire, water, or the national flag, and the towers are painted in giant lights. Fountains Square
